Question by lilazngrl: questions about the kindle touch 3g?
Hi I am 15 and I have recently recieved the Kindle Touch 3G as a Christmas present :) But the problem is, I have no idea how to use this. Since the Kindle company just developed a new generation, after hours of searching about this product, I discovered that the Kindle Touch 3rd Generation does not have access to any websites beyond wikipedia without the access of WiFi, but the 3rd Generation has a built in WiFi? So how exactly do you get access to google or yahoo (to read email)?
I have also read on amazon that the kindle touch 3g supports MP3, does that mean it will have the ability to play music?
It also says that you can borrow books from your library online and transfer it to the kindle or on a reader app. How exactly do you gain access to these?
Sorry this is my first time using any Kindle products, so far I have only seen the kindle book browser and that is all. It would be very useful to give step by step instructions on how to access or how to use this Kindle Touch 3G. Thanks for you help :)

Hi lilazngrl, that’s a lot of question that will take a couple of pages to answer. Your Kindle has both 3G (it’s true that only Amazon book store and Wikipedia are allowed to access on it) and Wi-Fi (you can access any web site when you get connected to a wireless hot spot if you can find a free one or your home wireless router.) Yes you can play MP3′s on your device but the audio quality is not too good on the eReaders. That’s all I know about Kindle besides the fact that it’s not the best device on the market – if you can still return it and get your money back ($ 139 if it is non-ads-supported device), you can get Nook Simple Touch from Barnes & Noble at $ 99 (without ads) – it has twice the battery life of Kindle, faster page turns than Kindle, and microSD card slot to expand capacity that neither Kindle has. With Nook you can checkout eBooks from public libraries – just need to get Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software (free from Adobe site). Also it’s worth mentioning that if you walk in with any Nook to Barnes & Noble store, you’ll get tech support and you’re allowed to read ANY available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi where Nook eBook store has over 2.5 million of paid books and about the same number of free public domain books. Nook already has Cloud as your ebooks are stored in your online library as well as downloaded to your device. Nook Simple Touch actually has a hidden web browser – just press the virtual “Search” button at the bottom of your Nook’s screen and key a URL into the search bar when it comes up. Per Consumer Reports, CNET, PCWORLD, etc. pro reviews Nook Touch is the best ereader on the market.
Here’s how checkout public library book on Nook:
First you need to get Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software (free from Adobe site).
Once you have checked out a title from your local library, download it to your computer. Once you hit the download button, the file that you will be prompted to download is a “.acsm” file.
2. Click open and the file will open up in ADE and refresh your library with new content. The title will display the amount of days you have left in the loan period. You can also save the .acsm file to your PC and open the file in ADE.
3. Go to the library view. Drag the title to the “NOOK” icon.
4. Undock the NOOK from your computer.
5. In the Library, open My Documents.
6. The title should be available to be read for the period of time specified by the library.
